Urban Garden - Brook Garden
This urban garden relies on a strong sense of geometry. I wanted to create a linkage and flow of space from inside to outside. This started with the clean lines of the conservatory that allow light and views to flood into this first outside room. Stepping stones cross the shallow pool, setting up reflections from both inside and out in the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. Decking was laid so the joints lead the eye into the garden, towards the sculptured head on the rear wall, reinforced by the clean lines of the no-nonsense, pre-cast concrete paving used both inside and out. Repetition is an important part of this garden and a particularly successful feature is the line of circular raised beds, constructed from low-cast concrete sewage rings, planted with Fagus sylvatica purpurea and seasonal flowering under- planting. Within the garden we planted lines of Yew (Taxus Baccatta), purple leaved cordalines and box hedges (Buxus sempervirens). The accent colours were hot pink and purple .
We advised that grass wouldn’t grow in this location so we choose a lime green rug in the conservatory to simulate an area of grass.
